Daisypicker's "Mess Around" Is Out Now
We are so glad it's finally out on vinyl!
Daisypicker are a folk-grunge band from Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. They formed in 2023, and *Mess Around* is their debut full-length. It came out in Australia last September, got great press down there, and now we're making it available as of June 5th. If you haven't heard it yet, fix that immediately.
The band is Nadia Phillips on guitar and vocals, Ezra Demchy on viola, Caleb Green on bass, and Jezabel Furlong on drums. The viola is not a violin, and it matters — it's one of the things that makes this record feel like its own thing. They recorded and mixed at Sound Recordings in Castlemaine (Djaara Country) with Alex Bennett in 2025.
"Folk-grunge" is how they describe themselves, and it's accurate. There's real grit here — the guitars are raw and the songs hit hard when they want to — but there's also a lot of tenderness in it. Nadia's lyrics deal with self-reflection, breaking bad patterns, emotional exhaustion. It's the kind of record where the tension between softness and aggression is the whole point.
Hannah Rose from FBI Radio put it well when she said, "Daisypicker's ability to let tenderness exist inside rage is what makes Mess Around so compelling".
The record got great attention when it dropped in Australia last year. FBI Radio (Sydney) named it Album of the Week. Beat Magazine ran a full feature interview with the band. Beehive Candy called it out ahead of the North American release. These are not small things.
