Next of Cat
Next of Cat is the third full-length from Tokyo indie/punk duo 1000s of Cats. Across nine songs the record moves between languages and moods. Opener "Live Together" reaches for connection across an impossible distance ("You're from outer space, so we may not understand each other... don't hate me") before settling into a run of Japanese-titled songs grounded in the small stuff of daily life in the city. A neighborhood bathhouse (銭湯), the walk home (帰り道), a house that won't disappear (消えない家), an old friend (友達), the first person of spring (春の人), cherry blossoms (さくら), and the wind and the waves (風も波も).
